Bottle crate climbing[edit]

I don't quite understand this diff. The image File:Empilement de casiers à bouteilles-Genève.jpg shows a Category:Bottle crate climbing, a type of climbing, therefore it should also belong to Category:Climbing in Switzerland as Geneva is in Swirttzerland. I was also surprised by the variety of climbing types. Do you agree with reverting your edition? MHM (talk) 09:42, 14 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sorry, my mistake, please do revert. I am tidying up the general "climbing" categories (categorizing images left in "head" categories) and aligning with WP terms. Aszx5000 (talk) 09:46, 14 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, the possibility to overwrite files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 19:40, 30 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Much appreciated! Aszx5000 (talk) 19:44, 30 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Martina cufar.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Martina cufar.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Hi A09, I imported this file from the Slovenian Commons here. It gives the author as Tomo Cesen (a very famous Slovenian climber with his own en WP article), and says "Published with the permission of KŠP (for use on Wikipedia)". I am not sure what else I can do in terms of validating its liscense? I thought that once it was on one WikiCommons, it was good for any WikiCommons, but I may be wrong. If this does not suffice, then delete it as there is little more I can do. thanks. Aszx5000 (talk) 20:49, 9 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello,

Why do you want to merge Category:Mountaineering diagrams with Category:Climbing diagrams ? Climbing and mountaineering are two different activities.

O.Taris (talk) 06:51, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes, I do O.Taris. I have been overhauling the WikiProject Climbing on en-WP but have also done work on the Commons aspect. For some topics (e.g. Climbing equipment and Mountaineering equipment), they are different (although with a lot of overlap). However, for things like diagrams, the overlap is too much and it is better to merge them (i.e. a lot of diagrams fit both criteria, and I think readers have used them interchangeably and can't really differentiate). Aszx5000 (talk) 08:50, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Some diagrams are common for climbing and mountaineering but others are very different. or File:GuideCauterets.jpg are not climbing and or File:KVB3 spec.jpg are not mountaineering but other diagrams are common for climbing and mountaineering, for example . I think that a solution could be to have a category Category:Climbing and mountaineering diagrams with two sub categories Category:Mountaineering diagrams and Category:Climbing diagrams for the specifics diagrams, what do you think about that ? Another solution could be to rename Category:Climbing diagrams to Category:Climbing and mountaineering diagrams but I prefer my first solution with two sub categories. O.Taris (talk) 11:14, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think there are just too many diagrams that rationally fit both sub-categories (i.e. a lot of "scrambling" type activities are often classed as climbing than mountaineering, but could be mountaineering; and a lot of big wall climbing looks like mountaineering etc.,). I think having a Category:Climbing and mountaineering diagrams also works and would cause less confusion (and I wouldn't have to spend time trying to make arbitrary calls on which sub cat it fits into? thanks. Aszx5000 (talk) 11:34, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I was able to take out the climbing grading diagrams and put them into their own category (this is a larger area with its own en-WP articles), but looking at what is left, it is quite a mix so I do think you idea of Category:Climbing and mountaineering diagrams is the most practical way forward. thanks.
